Did 2013 Road to Evo Overlook East Coast-Based Events?

Did 2013 Road to Evo Overlook East Coast-Based Events?

Inquiring minds want to know. . .

Moments ago, Mr. Wizard revealed the upcoming season for tournament events on the WakeUp SRK podcast that will make up the Road to EVO 2013 Season. Among the familiar events included: UFGT9, SoCal Regionals 2013, NorCal Regionals 2013 and CEO 2013.

. . .and that’s it.

Compared to last year, that’s a very low run of events that is missing one glaring omission: the East Coast. No official comments have been expressed as to why such events including Winter Brawl 7, Summer Jam 7 or even ECT5 in the mix. And as you can imagine, this isn’t sitting well with players in the Eastern area, players who have unconditionally come out to support one of the biggest international tournament circuits in the world.

Let’s have a recap shall we?

  • Apex Tournament Series,
  • Winter Brawl
  • OzHadou Nationals X
  • Final Round
  • South East Asia Major
  • NorCal Regionals 10
  • Texas Showdown
  • PowerUp 2012
  • Civil War 4
  • Team Mad Catz Championships
  • Toryuken
  • Season’s Beatings: Summer Slam
  • Northwest Majors
  • Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament 8
  • Montreal Annual Tournament
  • East Coast Throwdown, Morristown
  • CEO 2012
  • Midwest Championships 2012

That’s certainly a very robust lineup compared to the what’s in the pipeline for 2013. While there is some slight possibly additional events might be announced, one would be hard-pressed to continue being optimistic that East Coast-based events would be disclosed at a later date? It is also possible that the usual events that were previously associated with the EVO circuit have opted to do their own thing in order to grow on their own. Or perhaps the East Coast TOs were never even offered an opportunity to be part of the Road to EVO season.

For those on the outside looking in, it’s difficult to discern what’s truly going on.

  • So where do we go from there?
  • Is it possible to get another recount?
  • Is this lineup final? More importantly — what are your thoughts on this?

Hopefully, there will be more developments as to this turn of events.
