Could this classic franchise be making a 21st century comeback?
I have very fond memories playing the Streets of Rage series, which is considered to be one of Sega’s most successful 2D arcade-style action titles for the Sega Genesis era. Nia offers her insights of a potential revival in the works — well, maybe.
First, a bit of backstory. It would appear that Ruffian Games, the current publisher who developed Crackdown was originally working on the “remake” is responsible for the video leak that has gone viral on the web since its initial reveal. The thing is, the concept leaked was in the very early stages of development. A pre-pre-pre Alpha phase, if you will. . .then, it was canned unceremoniously.
No actual explanation was given by the company, and Ruffian Games business and management chief Gary Liddon was approached by the online media site Eurogamer.net, but was unable to disclose additional details.
I seriously hope that Sega comes through. They have such a rich library of classic games that deserve a reboot of some sort. Sonic, Afterburner and even OutRun had their opportunity, I’d say they should seize the opportunity.
Here’s the latest vlog from Nia – enjoy.
