More characters, more stages with a swath of gameplay changes.
Update: New information has surfaced confirming the new stages actually aren’t going to end up as original productions, but merely ported stages from Street Fighter x Tekken. The actual stages that will be incorporated have not been disclosed as of yet. This irks me seeing as this “update” was released due to fan feedback – if that’s the case, why not give us what we want: NEW content. We’ll pay for it – these copy/paste developments are disappointing. When’s Street Fighter V?
Well, this was definitely more than what I was expecting. . .
Over the past few months, Capcom has been working behind-the-scenes on making balance changes to the current build of Super Street Fighter 4 AE v. 2012, a balance that usually ends up with several characters seeing significant adjustments. This afternoon, at the EVO 2013 World Finals, Capcom revealed at the exclusive Capcom panel that the upcoming release would offer more than mere balance changes – they intended to take things the extra mile.
The end result: a new DLC pack which will provide players with an entirely new experience and introduce 5 new characters and 6 additional stages. Making the jump from the Street Fighter x Tekken roster: Hugo, Rolento, Poison and Elena. Capcom briefly shared some details that the final 5th character would be a character that has never been featured in a Street Fighter installment before. Chances are, Capcom will select a character from one of its recent franchises. Many have speculated that Ashura from Ashura’s Wrath will be the final character. It would be a logical marketing move considering the fact Capcom did incorporate Street Fighter crossover where Ryu was introduced as a special character in a DLC chapter, challenges Ashura in 2D-style fighting environment.
The upcoming DLC pack will be released sometime during the 1st Qtr 2014 for $15 as well as a digital download/retail copy for $40. To create some additional incentive surrounding the digital copy, you’ll receive new battle costumes created from the talented UDON team and receive all the previous DLC content at no additional charge.
On a related note, Capcom took some time during the panel to showcase some of the balance changes to some of the characters: Chun Li, T-Hawk, Dee Jay, Yang and Fei-Long. . .
More footage should be emerging from the Capcom camp very soon, so keep an eye out.
I haven’t seen a ton of discussion about one particular piece revealed in the slideshow: more than just balance changes suggests, well. …MORE. As in more gameplay tweaks besides characters getting buffed/nerfed. Will there be new twists to FADC? Will they include parries? Alpha-counters? Or will the game end up mirroring mechanics from Street Fighter x Tekken?
Right now, all we can do is speculate until Capcom is prepared to release new details to the public. The official logo and trailer will be revealed just tomorrow, just before the Grand Finals of Super Street Fighter 4. You can tune into the official EVO streams at http://www.twitch.tv/team/evo where the pools for Injustice, Street Fighter x Tekken, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom, King of Fighters and Super Smash Bros.
